Jean-Michel and Francine Schryve came to Quebec in 1975 after having their land expropriated in France. Noticing that the endive was not well known in North America, they decided to introduce it to Quebeckers.
Due to the difficulty of adapting the crop to Québec's climate, and a fire that destroyed their warehouse in 1978, their modest beginnings were followed by two decades of ups and downs.
In 1990, though, when they launched Endives J.M.S. with Philippe Schryve as president, their endive-growing enterprise really began to take root.
In 2011, Endives JMS replaced the Connaisseur brand with the new Diva brand.
